WCRS: Wisconsin-Specific Abstract Plus

About Abstract Plus

Abstract Plus is an application developed by the CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) that is used to summarize medical records into an electronic report, or abstract, of cancer diagnosis and treatment. 

It supports the abstraction of all data items in national standard data sets, including all text fields. Its output is an electronic abstract in the format of the North American Association of Central Cancer Registries (NAACCR) data exchange format. 

Background and transition to Web Plus

As of 2024, Abstract Plus is no longer supported or maintained by WCRS. WCRS now uses online forms within Web Plus, an online tool developed by the CDC, for abstraction and file submission. 

Web Plus abstracting is available at no cost to reporting facilities. Reporting facilities who formerly used Abstract Plus are encouraged to keep Abstract Plus installed for archival and reference purposes but should not use it to create any new abstracts.
